Commissioners Apostolos Tzitzikostas and Andrius Kubilius are participating in an extraordinary DG MOVE committee meeting with member states, aimed at accelerating the military mobility policy of the European Union (EU), which constitutes a cornerstone of Europe’s defense and security architecture.
Who will participate in the meeting
The meeting will include representatives from transport and defense ministries, as well as NATO —including NATO’s Deputy Secretary General for Defence Policy and Planning, the Deputy Commander of NATO’s Joint Support and Enabling Command (JSEC), and the European Union Military Staff— marking a significant step in joint efforts to strengthen Europe’s logistical support networks and address investment needs in critical infrastructure across four established EU military mobility priority corridors.
These corridors —identified in consultation with member states and the EU Military Staff, and in close cooperation with NATO— include over 500 priority projects, from reinforcing bridges and widening tunnels to constructing railway bypass lines, which will be implemented as a priority, as outlined in the White Paper on the future of European defense with a 2030 horizon that was recently approved.
Investments will focus on projects with the most tangible dual-use impact, ensuring that infrastructure improvements serve both civilian and military needs. The results of this work will be directly integrated into the upcoming military mobility package, which will be approved within the current year.
The European Commission is also calling on stakeholders in the transport and defense sectors to contribute to a targeted consultation recently launched to shape future actions and priorities in this field.
