Special mention was made of an Israeli soldier with American citizenship, who was severely wounded in the war in Gaza, by Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, speaking in the Knesset in the presence of American President Donald Trump. Specifically, Netanyahu referenced the courage of the men and women of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), using Ari Spitz, who lost three limbs in the war against Hamas in Gaza, as an example.
“Thousands of our brave soldiers were wounded, suffering horrific blows to body and soul. Brave soldiers like Ari Spitz” said Netanyahu, describing him as an example of heroism.
Netanyahu in Knesset: Who is the Israeli soldier he praised
As Netanyahu explained, Spitz participated in an operation to locate Hamas terrorists and weapons, during which two of his colleagues were killed and ten were wounded. He was initially considered dead, however he survived and managed to recover despite the severe losses.
During his speech, the Israeli Prime Minister called on the soldier to stand up for a moment, telling him:
“Ari, you are the spirit of Joshua, the spirit of David, the spirit of the Maccabees, the spirit of Israel. I honor you, we all honor you“.
Spitz’s presence drew warm applause in the chamber, with Netanyahu emphasizing that his story reflects the strength and perseverance of the Israeli people.
