A serious incident occurred in the Greek Parliament, between SYRIZA MP Kostas Barkas and independent MP aligned with the Movement for Change, Rallia Christidou. Specifically, the MP expressed her annoyance as while she was speaking at the plenary podium, she saw “out of the corner of her eye” the SYRIZA MP laughing.
Christidou’s threats to Barkas: The scene of tension
The independent MP aligned with the Movement for Change considered the SYRIZA MP’s behavior offensive, and when she finished her speech, passing by his seat, she allegedly told him in an intense tone: “If you laugh again, I’ll smash your face! Do you understand?”
Kostas Barkas was left speechless, as he said in conversation with parliamentary correspondents, explaining to them that all he was doing was talking at that moment with PASOK’s parliamentary spokesperson Dimitris Mantzo.
Meanwhile, Ms. Christidou spoke to a journalist about the incident, telling him that “while she was speaking about the need to revise Article 86, she was disturbed. For a representative of an anti-democratic party like SYRIZA to be disturbed, that’s going too far. The mere fact that he made it known to journalists makes all this even more ridiculous.”
However, thanks to the composure of the SYRIZA MP who chose not to respond within the plenary chamber, worse consequences were avoided.
