Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has arrived in New York to participate in the General Assembly of the UN. He traveled with his wife Emine, and the couple was greeted by a crowd of supporters holding Turkish flags outside the “House of Turkey” (Turkevi Center), Erdogan’s skyscraper in New York. “Every step is of critical importance,” the Turkish president stated upon his arrival, ahead of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly.

“For us, every step taken in the Middle East is of vital importance and, of course, we must discuss these with President (Donald) Trump,” Erdogan also emphasized.
Erdogan: In my speech, I will address the humanitarian catastrophe and atrocities in Gaza
It should be noted that before departing for New York, Erdogan said he would deliver a speech to the assembly on Tuesday (23.09.2025), the first day of high-level talks. “On the occasion of the General Assembly, I will once again emphasize our stance that reflects humanity’s conscience, solves problems and contributes to resolving issues… In my speech, I will address the humanitarian catastrophe and atrocities in Gaza,” the Turkish president told reporters.
Additionally, Erdogan said what distinguishes this year’s General Assembly from previous ones is that many countries will announce recognition of the Palestinian state. “We hope these decisions for Palestine recognition will give momentum to implementing the two-state solution,” he added. Furthermore, Erdogan stated he would hold talks with counterparts from many countries on the sidelines of the General Assembly, as well as with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, who was granted a visa by Washington and will address the assembly for the first time since taking office last December.
In a separate statement, Erdogan mentioned he would visit Washington on Thursday (25.09) to meet with US President Donald Trump. “During our meeting, we will discuss issues aimed at strengthening our bilateral cooperation, with emphasis on trade, investments, and defense industry. Regional issues will be at the top of our agenda,” he stated.
It’s worth noting that for tomorrow Tuesday (23.09), a meeting is scheduled between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on the sidelines of the UN Assembly in New York.
