After Samos, Migration and Asylum Minister Thanos Plevris is in Lesbos today, Monday, continuing his tour of the Eastern Aegean islands. Immediately after his arrival, he visited the North Aegean Region where he met with Regional Governor Kostas Moutzouris.
Plevris: “There is no possibility that our islands will accept burden from any other point in Greece”
During the discussion, Mr. Plevris emphasized that “there is no possibility that our islands will accept burden from any other point in Greece” and clarified that “no transfer will take place either from other islands or from the mainland. Whatever needs to be done regarding the Crete channel will be resolved at the level of Crete and the mainland.”
He also emphasized that respect will be practical and nothing will be done without the local communities, and I believe we can find understanding so that from now on we truly talk about relief for the islands that have carried a heavy migration burden.
The minister will then meet with Mytilene Mayor Panagiotis Christofas and the presidents of local communities at the Old Town Hall, followed by a visit to the Kara Tepe facility, where he will make statements to journalists before departing for Vastria.
Later he will travel to Mantamados, where he will meet with Kalloni Mayor Taxiarchis Verros and the presidents of local communities.
In the afternoon he is expected to visit Agiassos, where he will collaborate with the president and members of the Board of Directors of the Reading Room and will be briefed on the progress of restoration work on the historic building, a project funded by the Ministry.
Mr. Plevris’s visit to the island concludes with a meeting with New Democracy officials in Lesbos.
