“We are facing a particularly critical and difficult three-day period,” emphasized Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Giannis Kefalogiannis regarding the risk of wildfire outbreaks in the coming days. “The conditions are extreme, among the most dangerous of this year’s fire season, with gale-force winds, prolonged drought and high temperatures. Any negligence, no matter how small it may seem, can lead to a catastrophic wildfire,” the minister noted.
Giannis Kefalogiannis emphasized that “there is no room for mistakes. There is no space for negligence. The state mechanism is on highest alert. All government agencies are in full readiness. However, the most critical element of prevention remains our own attitude and behavior.”
“No complacency”
“Let us not allow the mistake that cannot be corrected to happen. No fires, no dangerous work in the countryside, no complacency. A single spark is enough to unleash disaster. The challenge is common: to protect our lives, our homes, our natural environment,” was the minister’s message ahead of the difficult days that follow.
