“The OPEKEPE scandal has put the country and Mr. Mitsotakis in a difficult position at the European level,” emphasizes SYRIZA president Socrates Famellos in his statement, highlighting that the prime minister has a duty to publicly disclose all the names of those who embezzled funds and the amount stolen from OPEKEPE. Mr. Famellos adds that beyond the return of funds through seizure of assets from those who acted illegally and the criminal prosecution of those involved, it is essential to complete the Preliminary Committee proceedings in Parliament for Messrs. Augenakis and Voridis.
“The Greek people will not allow a scandal involving the embezzlement of hundreds of millions of euros from honest Greek farmers to be covered up,” adds Socrates Famellos.
Socrates Famellos’s statement
“The OPEKEPE scandal has exposed the country and Mr. Mitsotakis throughout Europe, but the government is spreading word that by the end of August ‘it will have a clear picture’!
At a time when the two resigned OPEKEPE presidents have already spoken publicly and had informed Mr. Mitsotakis!
And their executives with Ferraris – whose focus until yesterday was EU funds – resign from their positions, but not from New Democracy membership.
Did they wait for the European Prosecutor and the raid by the Anti-Money Laundering Authority at OPEKEPE to address the plundering by the blue locusts?
Politico directly charges Mr. Mitsotakis with blocking the investigation into his ministers. Something obvious, since he went as far as parliamentary deviation to cover up the scandal and hide the case file that mentions dozens of names of ministers and top New Democracy officials.
I inform him that this is not a matter of choice, but his obligation:
– The disclosure of all embezzlers and funds stolen from OPEKEPE.
– The return of stolen funds, with seizure of assets from those who acted illegally.
– The filing of criminal charges against those involved.
– And of course the completion of the Preliminary Committee discussion in Parliament for Messrs. Augenakis and Voridis.
The Greek people will not allow a scandal involving the embezzlement of hundreds of millions of euros from honest Greek farmers to be covered up.
No matter how many diversionary attempts Mr. Mitsotakis makes, no matter what conspiracy theories his officials voice about the European Prosecutor, they cannot hide the truth.
We will not let corruption and favoritism become the norm.
And no matter what measures Mr. Mitsotakis cooks up for the Thessaloniki International Fair, no one believes him anymore.
And the first half 2025 data confirms that the theft of billions of euros continues through indirect taxes and super-profits in banks and energy.
Enough is enough with Mr. Mitsotakis, the dozens of blue scandals, the entanglement, the theft of public money and the continuous retreats at the international level.
No matter how much he delays it, he won’t avoid it. Elections should be called immediately, so that a progressive government can get the country out of the quagmire.”
