Temperatures are set to plummet in the coming days, with freezing cold and icy winds shaping the weather forecast across Greece. According to meteorologist Yannis Kallianos, Athens is bracing for an intensely wintry spell, with temperatures expected to run four to five degrees below seasonal norms.
Weather: Athens temperatures over the coming days
As the meteorologist highlighted on Mega TV, the cold will remain consistently below normal levels — four to five degrees lower than seasonal averages — through to next Monday.
- On Friday (06/11), the maximum temperature in the city center will reach 17°C.
- On Saturday (07/11) and Sunday (08/11), the mercury will drop to 16°C.
- On Monday, temperatures will fall even further to 15°C.
The combination of very low temperatures and an intense wind chill effect is prompting households to seek heating solutions to cope with the cold and damp conditions expected over the coming days.
Northerly winds driving bitter wind chill
The raw thermometer readings, however, don’t tell the full story about actual conditions on the ground. According to Yannis Kallianos, the main driver of the biting cold is a powerful surge of northerly winds sweeping across the entire country. In the Aegean, wind speeds are forecast to reach 6 to 7 Beaufort, though no disruptions to ferry services are anticipated. Within Attica, winds will blow at 5 to 6 Beaufort. In practical terms, this means that during the evening hours in northern suburb areas, the real-feel temperature could plunge to as low as 7°C. Overnight and in the early morning hours, thermometers in central Athens will show 9 to 10°C, while in the northern parts of the prefecture, minimum temperatures will hover between 5 and 7°C.
Weather pattern shift expected on Tuesday
However, according to Yannis Kallianos, the weather is set to look completely different after Monday. On Tuesday and Wednesday, conditions will reverse sharply. Temperatures will rise rapidly, with the mercury climbing back to warmer levels and approaching 20 to 22°C.
