A fire broke out in the early hours of Thursday (October 8) in an apartment building in the Agios Ioannis Rentis area, prompting the mobilization of a significant firefighting response.
According to initial reports, the fire broke out in a second-floor apartment at 20 Fleming Avenue. Firefighters carried out a precautionary evacuation of the building to ensure the safety of all residents.
The exact circumstances under which the fire started remain under investigation.
A total of 15 firefighters are currently on the scene with five fire trucks, while a ladder vehicle has also been deployed to assist in tackling the blaze.
Due to the fire, traffic police have closed Fleming Avenue to vehicles from Eleftherios Venizelos Square in the Agios Ioannis Rentis area, in order to facilitate firefighting operations.
