Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State, arrived in Athens on Tuesday evening (6/10) for a two-day visit centered on the sixth round of the Greece–United States Strategic Dialogue.
Marco Rubio: A warm welcome and embrace from Giorgos Gerapetritis
The Strategic Dialogue will open with sessions on regional issues, followed by discussions on people-to-people ties. A Letter of Intent will be signed to establish cooperation between the Greek Armed Forces and the Florida National Guard. Greece and the US will also renew their Memorandum of Cooperation on import restrictions for categories of archaeological and ethnological material dating up to the 15th century AD. In addition, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed for the mutual recognition of Seafarers’ Certificates of Competency under the International STCW Convention of 1978, with the goal of facilitating maritime employment and strengthening Greek-American cooperation in maritime education and training.
The working lunch between the two delegations will address global issues, according to the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ official schedule. Thematic sessions will follow on security and law enforcement, energy, shipping, technology, trade and investment, and defense. The proceedings are expected to conclude at 5:00 PM. It is worth noting that the Greece-US Strategic Dialogue was launched in 2018, with the most recent — fifth — round having taken place in Washington in February 2024.
