The Revolutionary Guards appear to be employing reverse psychology in their 25-page open letter to American voters ahead of November’s midterm elections. Hossein Mohebbi, a spokesperson for the organization, stated that he does not believe the letter’s contents will influence official United States policy — just five weeks before the vote — but hopes voters will get the message. Through this letter, the Revolutionary Guards seek to dismantle the entire US-Israeli narrative regarding Iran’s alleged pursuit of nuclear weapons, while condemning Donald Trump for concealing the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program, as well as Tehran’s blockade of Gulf oil exports. The letter emphasizes that Israel views the program as an existential threat, while also suggesting that coexistence between Iran and the United States remains possible — provided Americans push for a change in policy.
Revolutionary Guards: “Iran is not seeking to acquire nuclear weapons”
Hossein Mohebbi addressed what he described as a widespread lack of awareness among American citizens ahead of the midterm elections: “The American people are not informed about many developments. We believe that if they knew more, they would think differently and make different decisions.” The statement comes at a time when Democrats are polling strongly and appear to pose a direct threat to the Republicans. The letter also directly challenges Trump’s narrative regarding Iran’s alleged desire to obtain nuclear weapons. It argues that building such weapons is itself one of the causes of war, and references Trump’s speech at the 81st UN General Assembly, in which the US President suggested he could “obliterate” the Islamic Republic if he chose to do so.
“The enemy knows that Iran is not seeking to acquire nuclear weapons,” Mohebbi said. He went on to call Trump both a liar and a greedy man: “America’s national security and the lives of its soldiers are entrusted to someone who is not only a habitual liar but also an incredibly greedy man, whose sole motivation in life is the accumulation of ever greater wealth.”
The “lies” about the Strait of Hormuz
The Revolutionary Guards spokesperson further stated that US claims that Iran has lost control of the Strait of Hormuz are simply not true. He noted that such claims are made in part because US forces have managed to escort some oil tankers carrying crude from the Gulf. “The fact that Americans can, at great cost, with significant difficulty and high risk, manage to slip a small vessel through the Strait of Hormuz under cover of darkness to export, say, 100 or 200 barrels of oil does not mean the Strait is open,” Mohebbi said.
According to data from Kpler, oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz recorded a recovery in September, with estimates pointing to approximately 10 million barrels per day — roughly half the pre-war volume, but significantly higher than during the height of the conflict.
