Former LAOS party leader Giorgos Karatzaferis launched a fierce verbal assault against former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras during a Saturday morning appearance on Parapolitika 90.1 radio, on the show “Morning Flight” hosted by journalist Tilemaghos Santorinaios. Commenting on the political maneuvering of the Messenian politician, Karatzaferis stated: “In an apartment building, there is the owner, there is the tenant, but sometimes there is also the squatter. That is Samaras — I have no respect for him whatsoever.”
When asked whether Samaras could cause damage to New Democracy, Karatzaferis responded: “He damaged us the first time, back in 1993. We still had eight months to set things right, and we lost the government because of Samaras. We were delayed in returning to power by 11 years because Samaras backed Papandreou. At the time, Papandreou was looking for a President of the Republic, and Samaras handed him Stefanopoulos on a silver platter. Then in 1996, after the assassination of Solomos Solomou, the funeral was held in a church that could fit 50 people, yet around 2,000 showed up. I was standing right next to Samaras and told him: ‘Antonis, cut the nonsense and let’s move forward together. Your problem was with Mitsotakis — now we have Evert. Let’s go into the elections together, they were only a month away.’ Not a word. He didn’t get on board, and we stayed out of power for 11 years because of Samaras.”
“In 2009, when Karamanlis brought him back, he became the leader of New Democracy — not because people wanted him, but because they didn’t want Dora Bakoyannis and turned to him instead. Samaras reminds me of that kid who, when you won’t let him play, starts throwing rocks at the windows. If Mitsotakis had made him a commissioner, would he be doing what he’s doing now? If he had made him President of the Republic, would he be acting this way? He wasn’t given what he felt he deserved, so he’s throwing a tantrum. He’s not the only one — others who were also passed over are throwing rocks with whatever means they have at their disposal. This man, this traitor, cannot be allowed back into the fold. That would be a grave mistake,” the former LAOS leader concluded.
