Police authorities in Argyroupoli are investigating a bizarre incident involving an attempted abduction and shooting. A 46-year-old Greek diaspora member from the former Soviet Union arrived at Tzaneio Hospital in the early hours of Monday with a through-and-through gunshot wound to the shoulder.
The 46-year-old arrived at the hospital at approximately 1:40 a.m. on Monday, August 31, where doctors confirmed he had sustained a gunshot wound. According to the statement he gave to authorities, the incident had been preceded by a serious altercation on Gravias Street in Argyroupoli.
The man claimed that four unknown individuals attempted to forcibly bundle him into a car. He said he managed to resist and tried to flee. At that point, according to his account, one of the attackers shot him, wounding him in the shoulder.

Police are examining the 46-year-old’s account and working to establish the exact circumstances of the incident, as well as to identify those allegedly involved. The man remains hospitalized at Tzaneio Hospital; however, according to information available so far, his life is not in danger.
