A fire broke out in the early hours of Thursday (27/08) at the facilities of radio station “Athens 9.84,” located at Technopolis in the Gazi district of Athens, most likely caused by a short circuit.
According to a report by Spyros Darsinos for ERTnews, the fire was triggered by a transformer that may have exploded due to a technical fault. The fire did not spread to the rest of the building.
Three fire trucks carrying nine firefighters were initially dispatched to the scene, with an additional vehicle later sent to reinforce the response team. Power to the building was cut off to prevent the situation from escalating further.
No employees or security personnel were in danger as a result of the fire. Notably, just a few days earlier, the same building experienced a separate but related incident, also originating from an electrical installation, which caused the radio station’s broadcast to be interrupted.
