A powerful earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of Occidental Mindoro province in the western Philippines on Friday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

The earthquake was recorded at 10:38 local time, with its epicenter located approximately 21 kilometers southwest of the city of Mamburao and a focal depth estimated at 10 kilometers, as announced by PHIVOLCS.
The tremor was felt as far away as Manila. According to eyewitnesses cited by Reuters, employees at a government agency building were evacuated as a precautionary safety measure.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology assessed that no significant damage is expected from the earthquake, but warned that aftershocks are likely to follow.
