Very high temperatures and heatwave conditions persist, while in many regions across the country, including Attica, the risk of wildfire outbreaks will be very high for Friday.
Specifically, according to the Fire Risk Prediction Map, the risk will be very high in Attica, Kythira, Boeotia, Euboea, Phocis, Phthiotis, Aetolia-Acarnania, Preveza, Thesprotia, Kastoria, Florina, Argolida, Corinthia, Laconia as well as in Phthiotis, Magnesia, Ioannina, Kozani, Achaea, Elis, and Arcadia. The islands at high risk include the Ionian Islands, Crete, Lesbos, Chios, Psara, Samos, Icaria, and Rhodes.
High risk will apply to the remaining island and mainland areas, in the Ionian Islands region, in the Peloponnese region (Arcadia, Messenia), and in the Western Greece region (Elis, Achaea).
The General Secretariat for Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr) of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection has informed the competent state services involved, as well as the Regions and Municipalities of the above areas, to maintain heightened civil protection readiness in order to immediately address any fire incidents.
Additionally, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection advises citizens to be particularly careful and avoid actions in rural areas that could cause fires through negligence, such as burning dry grass and branches or cleaning debris, using machinery that produces sparks like angle grinders and welding equipment, using outdoor barbecues, smoking beehives, throwing lit cigarettes, etc. It is also reminded that field burning is prohibited during the fire prevention period.
