A full-scale search operation is underway for a 20-year-old swimmer who went missing Thursday afternoon at Klotzani beach in Malia, Heraklion. According to reports, an alarm was raised with the Hellenic Coast Guard at 19:30, which immediately mobilized its resources. Coast Guard vessels, along with passing private boats, are combing the area in an effort to locate the young man, as reported by the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA), citing the Operations Coordination Center.
Search operations have been suspended since this morning due to vessels being unable to set sail, as severely adverse conditions prevail in the area, with northerly and north-northwesterly winds exceeding force 7 on the Beaufort scale. The search will resume as soon as conditions allow.
