“Tuesday evening at 8:00 PM route Limenas – Keramoti. Ship, Ioannis Sofia of Thassos Seaways.
Once again I was ashamed to be human.
A person in a wheelchair, with their companion, traveled alongside the cars because apparently there is no way for the wheelchair to go up to the passenger area.
For years now, the same story: Elderly people, people with mobility problems cannot travel like humans because there is no provision for them.
Why? Which official can answer?“, writes Evi Zoumpoulidou in her post denouncing the incident.
Immediate response from Kikilas regarding the Thassos incident
By order of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Island Policy, Vasilis Kikilas, the Kavala Port Authority has initiated the procedure for imposing sanctions for violation of the provisions of the General Port Regulation No. 14, against the Captain and those responsible for loading the ship involved in the incident with the disabled person in Thassos.
In this context, strict recommendations were made to the Captain, particularly regarding his failure to take appropriate care for the placement of the disabled person and their companion in a properly configured and safe area.
At the same time, with strict orders from the Central Service, inspections are being intensified especially on open-type coastal ships to verify that ship captains are taking appropriate measures to avoid similar incidents in the future, with the primary aim of ensuring smooth and unhindered movement of disabled people and their companions, as well as other passengers.
