“The university admission system will not change immediately. The proposal we are discussing with the Prime Minister is to study incorporating grades from each year toward achieving the national high school diploma. Most importantly, we need to stop high schools from being merely preparation chambers for universities,” the minister said.
Sofia Zacharaki: We will strengthen universities with more security personnel
Regarding university security, Sofia Zacharaki explained that each university and department will have a separate security plan for campus safety. “We will strengthen universities with more security personnel, controlled entry with security at each building, cameras covering larger areas, card-controlled access, and NFC-enabled student cards,” the Education Minister stated.
Furthermore, Sofia Zacharaki emphasized that reinstating Technical Educational Institutes (TEI) is not under discussion.
Finally, the Education Minister addressed the OPEKEPE scandal, stressing that chronic systemic problems must be addressed and that New Democracy’s goal is to ensure justice is served. “People need to know that justice will be done, and whoever took something unjustly will pay and return the money,” she said.
University admission scores 2025: The estimates
According to current estimates, no significant changes are expected in admission scores for most schools. Specifically:
- Admission scores are expected to decline in the 1st Academic Field (Humanities), with an estimated drop of approximately 200 points.
- A smaller decline of 50 to 150 points is expected in the 3rd Field (Health Sciences).
- Conversely, the 2nd and 4th Fields (Science Studies and Economics-Informatics) show an upward trend, with increases of 150 to 200 points, particularly in sought-after schools in the 2nd Field, where even greater increases may occur.
The final determination of admission scores will depend, as every year, on the number of candidates per field, performance in national exams, and preference rankings in the computerized application forms.
