New evidence is emerging regarding the deadly attacks in Thessaloniki targeting three senior members of New Democracy. As revealed by Mega TV, counter-terrorism investigators are now examining video footage that captures the precise moment the suspect plants an incendiary device outside the home of Savvas Anastasiadis.
Assassination attempt in Thessaloniki: The moment an incendiary device is planted at Savvas Anastasiadis’ home
The exclusive video document obtained by MEGA records the suspect’s movements frame by frame. As clearly seen in the footage, the perpetrator appears dressed entirely in black, with his face concealed, carrying a bag containing the incendiary device. Moving swiftly, the suspect makes his way through the ground floor of the apartment building where former New Democracy MP Savvas Anastasiadis resides.
He places the incendiary device at the entrance of the building before disappearing. Seconds later, the gas canisters detonate, triggering a wall of fire that causes extensive damage to the property.
The counter-terrorism investigation
Counter-terrorism officers are working to map the attackers’ route using surveillance footage, aiming to determine where the incendiary devices were obtained, where the motorcycles were hidden following the attacks, and crucially, whether the suspects removed their masks at any point during their movements.
Investigators have established that at least three individuals took part in the assassination attempt, using two motorcycles. Authorities are now also exploring the possible involvement of a fourth suspect.
“Officers are working to build a profile of the suspects and are gathering evidence,” journalist Vasilis Lampropoulos reports. Authorities are searching for any mistakes made by the perpetrators and are awaiting forensic laboratory results for potential fingerprints and DNA from a fragment of insulating tape recovered from one of the incendiary devices.
