She became a human shield to save her child
At the same time, just a few meters away, another heartbreaking story was unfolding. A mother sacrificed her own life to save her only daughter. As footballer Héctor Bello revealed, his wife, Andrea, became their child’s human shield. In a gut-wrenching Instagram post, he described how the “love of his life” covered their little daughter with her own body as their home came crashing down around them. “I will tell her the story of how you saved her, my love. How you gave your own life for our daughter. How you were a brave woman who never abandoned her, even as you drew your last breath,” he wrote, overcome with grief.
In follow-up posts, the footballer revealed he had traveled to Caracas, where his daughter is receiving hospital treatment.
“My daughter and her aunt are doing well. They won’t be discharged today — they’ll remain in hospital. Thank you all for your support during this unbearable pain,” he wrote.
In another Instagram Story, he expressed his devastating grief in words that broke hearts: “How do I explain to our daughter that you gave your life to save hers? And that I wasn’t there to do anything? How do I explain that to her? Give me strength now.”
The tragic news was also confirmed by the local football press organization Cumaná de Campeones, which stated: “It is with profound sorrow that we announce that the partner of footballer Héctor Bello ‘Kike’, originally from Cumaná, was found dead under the rubble following the earthquake that struck the country. Their daughter, however, survived the collapse of the apartment building where the family resided.”
