The Conference of Presidents has decided to launch the hearing process for senior judges and prosecutors in order to fill the positions of both the President and the Prosecutor of the Areios Pagos — Greece’s Supreme Court.
In a conversation with parliamentary correspondents, Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament Nikitas Kaklamanis confirmed that the process will begin on Friday (19/6). More specifically, at tomorrow’s session of the Conference of Presidents, the Deputy Presidents of the Supreme Court will appear before the committee, followed by the remaining Supreme Court justices.
The following Thursday and Friday, the process will be repeated with hearings for the Deputy Prosecutors of the Supreme Court, in order to select the new Prosecutor General. It is worth noting that current Supreme Court President Anastasia Papadopoulou, as well as Prosecutor General Konstantinos Tzavellas, are both set to retire at the end of June.
