Terrifying moments unfolded Tuesday night in Laredo, Texas, when a small aircraft crashed onto a highway and burst into flames. Passing drivers rushed to help, managing to pry open the plane’s door and free those on board before the situation turned even more deadly.

Videos circulating on social media show the aircraft flipped on its side on the road’s shoulder, having struck a concrete median barrier, with thick smoke and flames engulfing the area. According to local authorities, six people were on board the aircraft at the time of the crash. One passenger lost their life due to the violent impact, while the remaining survivors were rescued and received emergency first aid.
The accident occurred shortly after 10:00 p.m. Tuesday (local time) on Loop 20 highway, according to a Laredo police investigator. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Shocking eyewitness accounts from the Texas plane crash: “We were terrified it would explode”
Authorities confirmed that, despite the severity of the accident, there were no immediate reports of injuries among drivers who were on the highway at the time of the crash. However, as a precautionary measure, traffic was halted in both directions.
Eyewitness Zaira Garza described the dramatic moments that followed the plane going down, recounting how she saw a passenger in the cockpit desperately trying to smash through the window to escape. She said her husband immediately ran toward the burning aircraft alongside other bystanders in an effort to help free those trapped inside. Shortly after, the door was forced open and three individuals — who were described as appearing to be teenagers — managed to climb out. They were followed by one more person, believed to be the pilot.
Videos recorded at the scene show a crew member attempting to pull an unresponsive passenger to safety. The footage left bystanders visibly shaken. “It was like a scene out of a movie. I was in complete shock,” one eyewitness said, adding that the greatest fear for everyone present was the possibility of the aircraft exploding due to the fire that had broken out.
