A significant decrease of 25.2% in Greece’s trade balance deficit was recorded this April, according to ELSTAT. Following an almost quadruple increase in export values compared to imports, as revealed by ELSTAT, the reduction in the trade balance deficit was expected.

The total value of imports in April 2026 reached €7.35 million compared to €6.71 million in the same month of 2025, showing a 9.6% increase (excluding petroleum products, there was a decrease of €49.1 million or 0.9%, while excluding petroleum products and ships, an increase of €13.2 million or 0.2% was recorded).
The total value of exports reached €5.19 million compared to €3.83 million in April 2025, showing a 35.7% increase (excluding petroleum products, there was an increase of €246.6 million or 7.9%, while excluding petroleum products and ships, there was an increase of €246.7 million or 7.9%).
The trade balance deficit reached €2.16 million compared to €2.88 million in April 2025, showing a 25.2% decrease (excluding petroleum products, there was a decrease of €295.7 million or 11.5%, while excluding petroleum products and ships, there was a decrease of €233.5 million or 9.5%).
Total import value for the first four months
During the first four months, the total value of imports reached €28.21 million compared to €27.32 million in the same period of 2025, showing a 3.3% increase (excluding petroleum products, there was an increase of €363.2 million or 1.7%, while excluding petroleum products and ships, there was an increase of €365.2 million or 1.7%).
The total value of exports reached €17.77 million compared to €15.97 million in the first four months of 2025, showing an 11.3% increase (excluding petroleum products, there was an increase of €525.5 million or 4.2%, while excluding petroleum products and ships, there was an increase of €507.9 million or 4.1%).
The trade balance deficit reached €10.44 million compared to €11.34 million in the first four months of 2025, showing an 8% decrease (excluding petroleum products, there was a decrease of €162.3 million or 1.8%, while excluding petroleum products and ships, there was a decrease of €142.7 million or 1.6%).
