Shocking moments unfolded at the Single-Member Court of Appeals for Felonies in Larissa, where a case involving the killing of a dog in a village three years ago was being heard. The elderly owner of the animal, according to larissanet, described the moment of loss with intense emotional charge, saying characteristically: “It was like someone killed my child.” The dog, named Hector, was the companion of two elderly people, who considered him a member of their family.

According to the elderly woman’s testimony, her 67-year-old neighbor was the one who shot the dog, as after hearing the gunshot she moved toward him and saw him holding the hunting rifle while subsequently trying to hide the dog in a garbage bin. The examination later showed that death resulted from pellets fired at close range.
Larissa: “Since Hector left us we lost our health” – 67-year-old denies charges
“Since Hector left us we lost our health. It was like someone killed my child,” the elderly woman emphasized angrily. In his defense, the 67-year-old denied the charges, admitted that he owns the weapon as a hunter and that during the disputed period he was not at his home. “I consider dogs part of the family. I had no reason to do this. I don’t know why they’re accusing me,” the 67-year-old stated.
However, the court was not convinced by his claims and after finding him guilty of killing the dog, illegal weapon possession and use, imposed a total prison sentence of three years and six months and a fine of 2,500 euros, with the appeal having suspensive effect. It should be noted that he was granted the mitigating factor of previous honest living.
