A serious traffic accident with extensive property damage occurred in Nafpaktos, when a 75-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle, causing chaos in the city center. The Nafpaktia Traffic Department, which is conducting the preliminary investigation into the exact causes of the incident, proceeded with the immediate revocation of the elderly man’s driving license.
Everything began when the car driven by the 75-year-old, under circumstances that remain unclear, veered off course. The driver violated a no-entry traffic sign, entered oncoming traffic, and drove the wrong way down a one-way street, beginning a chaotic series of consecutive collisions.
75-year-old loses license after Nafpaktos accident rampage: Crashed into benches, motorcycles and cars
During his uncontrolled drive, the vehicle collided with:
- Three parked motorcycles.
- Two parked passenger cars.
- Another car that was driving normally in the opposite lane.
Street benches and the outdoor equipment of two commercial establishments.
The car’s rampage stopped abruptly when it crashed violently into the facades of two businesses. Fortunately, no pedestrians or customers were seriously injured, however the property damage to both the involved vehicles and the store infrastructure is extensive.
Negative alcohol tests – Driving license revoked
Traffic police officers rushed to the scene immediately. The investigation revealed that the 75-year-old had a valid license, and he was subjected to an alcohol test –as was the driver of the other moving vehicle– with results coming back negative for both.
The at-fault driver was issued hefty administrative violations for driving in oncoming traffic, violating the one-way street and ignoring no-entry signage. Additionally, his driving license was revoked on the spot, so that his physical and mental capacity to be behind the wheel can be officially re-examined.
“I went out to get my child and saw the car,” says mother who saved her child from vehicle rampage
“I had stopped, I had gotten out at the bakery and when I came outside to get my child I saw the car coming,” she noted.
When asked about her and the little girl’s health, she said “the child is fine” and added that initially she didn’t realize what had happened but now she has come to terms with it. She didn’t manage to see the driver of the vehicle.
“I didn’t even see him. I don’t know,” she clarified.
