Two men are hospitalized in stable condition following a knife attack in Barnet, London, while a 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, according to a Metropolitan Police statement. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the incident occurred on Highfield Avenue. According to the same statement, the suspect also attempted to attack police officers during his arrest, with authorities using a taser to subdue him.
Two men, aged approximately 70 and 30 years old, received first aid at the scene for knife wounds and were subsequently transported to hospital. According to the Daily Mail, video appears to have captured the moment of the attack and the man’s arrest: A local resident reported that the attack happened almost in front of his house and emphasized that “one man was stabbed outside shops and the other was attacked in an alley, outside a synagogue.”
Meanwhile, speaking in Parliament, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized that this was an “extremely concerning” incident. He added: “A police investigation has begun and I believe we all need to do everything we can to support this investigation and be absolutely clear about our determination to tackle any of these crimes, which we have seen far too many of lately.”
London knife attack: Israeli foreign ministry statement
“Following attacks on synagogues, Jewish institutions, community ambulances and now on Jewish citizens in Golders Green, the United Kingdom can no longer claim that the situation is under control,” the Israeli Foreign Ministry emphasizes.
It is also noted that Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s statements are insufficient as a response to the problem, calling on the government to address the deeper causes of antisemitism that, as stated, is intensifying in the country.
The same statement emphasizes that Jewish citizens in Britain should not need security patrols or volunteer emergency groups to live openly as members of their community.
“Enough with words. The United Kingdom must act decisively and urgently,” the Israeli Foreign Ministry concludes.
