According to French Press Agency journalists who were present, loud commotion was heard at the hall entrances, though initially, as evident from Trump’s statements, there was no immediate concern that a dangerous incident was occurring.
However, this quickly changed and Melania Trump’s reaction is telling. Specifically, in video footage, President Trump can be seen sitting at the head table while gunshots are heard that initially, as mentioned, don’t provoke any reaction. Only seconds later do the dinner guests appear to realize there is an incident, with anxiety and terror clearly visible on Melania Trump’s face.

Immediately as shown in the video, heavily armed security agents intervene swiftly and remove the president toward the left side of the platform while Melania, as seen in the video above, takes cover under the table. The music stops and other agents move across the table and appear to aim their weapons at the audience.

US President Donald Trump revealed what his wife Melania told him moments after the gunshots were heard at the Washington Hilton during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, describing the incident as particularly shocking and emotionally charged.
Speaking at a White House press conference, Trump mentioned that initially it wasn’t clear what had happened, as a loud noise was heard during the event.
As he said, he was sitting next to Melania Trump when the sound was heard, noting that he initially thought it might have been “a plate that fell” or something similar.
According to Trump, Melania almost immediately realized it was something much more serious.
“It was a bad sound,” she reportedly told him, with Trump emphasizing that the First Lady showed great composure and awareness of the situation.
Trump characterized the incident as “particularly traumatic” for his wife, pointing out that the moments that followed were chaotic and sudden.
The president also mentioned that Melania Trump has repeatedly expressed concern for his safety, due to multiple attempts against him in the past.
As he characteristically said, the First Lady has emphasized to him many times that “it’s a dangerous job”.
