Scenes of cinematic chase unfolded on Sunday afternoon (5/4) in the streets of Piraeus, with two young men arrested after a violent robbery against a 69-year-old man in Perama. According to information, the perpetrators, aged 19 and 20, approached the elderly man pretending to be potential buyers for a vehicle he had posted for sale. However, within seconds, the “meeting” turned into a nightmare, as they violently snatched the chain he was wearing around his neck and disappeared by car.
Wild robbery in Perama: Police officers found stolen chain
Police officers from the DIAS Unit were immediately mobilized, who, after targeted searches, located the perpetrators’ vehicle moving in Nikaia. When they signaled for a traffic stop, the 19-year-old driver not only failed to comply, but hit the gas, speeding up and attempting to escape.
A high-risk chase followed, with the vehicle even driving in the opposite direction of traffic, putting passing drivers and pedestrians in serious danger. The “crazy ride” of the perpetrators came to an end in Korydallos, where police officers managed to immobilize the vehicle and arrest them.
During the subsequent search, police officers found the stolen chain carefully hidden inside the car, which was confiscated and returned to its 69-year-old owner. Criminal charges were filed against the two young men by the Perama Crime Investigation Unit for robbery, dangerous driving, disobedience and conspiracy to commit robbery, while they were taken to the competent prosecutor.
