Evidence of moral complicity for Charalambos Athanassiou and Tasos Hatzivassileiou
The third case file concerning OPEKEPE reportedly contains serious evidence of moral complicity in breach of duty. MPs Athanassiou and Hatzivassileiou appear with this capacity, while organization officials are considered the direct perpetrators. The document is expected to be submitted to Parliament for examination of a possible immunity waiver for the two parliamentary representatives.
Different path for the OPEKEPE case file
This time the case followed a particular route. The case file was forwarded from the European Public Prosecutor’s Office to the District Attorney’s Office, as the crime of breach of duty does not fall under the jurisdiction of European prosecutors. The offenses that European prosecutorial authorities can investigate do not cover this category, which necessitated the transfer of the case. The District Attorney’s Office now has the authority to evaluate the material and judge the further course of the case. Specifically, it will examine whether there is sufficient evidence to forward the case file to Parliament, so that the issue of immunity waiver for MPs Athanassiou and Hatzivassileiou can be addressed.
