Police forces were placed on high alert in the early morning hours of Monday, when three consecutive fires broke out in Patisia and Zografou neighborhoods. As it emerged, remnants of incendiary devices were discovered, which activated the Counter-Racist and Extremist Violence Unit to investigate the case.
The first attack occurred at 01:25 on Patision Street, when unknown perpetrators placed an explosive-incendiary device resulting in extensive material damage to an ATM at a bank branch. At the scene, a towel and pieces of nylon were found, presumably used as fire-starting materials.
The second attack was almost simultaneous. It happened around 01:30 at Cyprus Square in Zografou. There, the unknown perpetrators placed a device next to an ATM located in a municipal building. The perpetrators used a candle as an ignition device.
The third attack occurred again in Patisia, on the border with Kypseli around 01:50. At the intersection of Prigkiponisson and Patision streets, unknown individuals used flammable liquid to set fire to a van truck belonging to a supermarket company.
Five people were brought in for questioning, however none of those investigated are connected to the case. State Security is proceeding with the preliminary investigation.
