The recovery of the body of the 34-year-old diver from Vouliagmeni coast is expected to take place tomorrow, Saturday March 28th. The operation has been characterized as particularly demanding due to dangerous conditions at the site, which divers call the “devil’s well”. The body of the 34-year-old was located on Wednesday March 25th, trapped at a depth of approximately 30 meters.
His final moments have been recorded by the camera he carried with him, while attempting to document his underwater journey.
Vouliagmeni coast: Fully equipped diver but sea currents proved fatal
The diver was fully equipped and moving toward the “well” when powerful currents swept him away. The intensity of the currents apparently led him to crash into rocks, causing him to lose part of his equipment, which proved fatal.
Preparations for the operation
The operation will be undertaken by a specialized team of five cave divers. Preparations have already begun, aimed at maximum possible safety. Special stakes and metal structures are being positioned at the site, on which durable ropes will be secured.
The ropes will help both with safe navigation inside the cave and with transporting the body, as the currents – especially in the horizontal section – are extremely powerful and dangerous even for experienced professionals.

The site is located at the second cove of Vouliagmeni and consists of an underwater vertical hole with a narrow opening, leading to greater depths and a network of underwater passages. After the initial opening, narrow passages follow and a tunnel that leads to a cave of unknown extent. Limited visibility, steep gradients and powerful currents increase the risk of disorientation, making diving particularly demanding.
The danger of the area has been known for decades. In 1978, three young American divers were lost trying to explore the tunnel. Their remains were located and identified only in 2007. Since then, there has been a warning sign from the Coast Guard at the entrance to the site, with the characteristic message: “Beyond this point there is nothing worth more than life”.
