A 39-year-old man is being treated for severe burns to his head and face at the surgical clinic of Volos Hospital after being injured while attempting to save his mother and grandmother from a house fire.
According to ERT reports, his health condition is characterized as serious, however hospitalization in an Intensive Care Unit is not deemed necessary. He is expected to be transferred to the burns unit at Papanikolaou Hospital in Thessaloniki for further treatment in the coming days.

The 88-year-old woman and her 66-year-old daughter are impossible to identify, while information about their identities was provided by the 39-year-old himself. The unfortunate man lived through the tragedy that struck his family minute by minute, when bedding in the living room caught fire from a heater short circuit while the two women were in the room.
The fire spread immediately and the 39-year-old who lived with his 66-year-old mother and his 88-year-old bedridden grandmother in the house tried to save them. Explosions began to be heard in the neighborhood and the 66-year-old was shouting “help” as she came out to the yard of the house, while her son made efforts to lead his grandmother out of the house, but it was futile.
Neighbors saw the 66-year-old woman burning and collapsing when the ambulance arrived. The 88-year-old was found dead on her sofa.
According to neighbor testimonies to gegonota.news, late in the afternoon they heard explosions and the voice of the 66-year-old calling for help. By the time neighbors opened their doors to see what was happening, the explosions became stronger and they immediately called the Fire Department. The house caught fire in a matter of seconds.
