The already tense atmosphere in the Gaiopolis courtroom in Larissa reached a breaking point. The tension that had been building before the start of the trial for the Tempi railway tragedy spilled over into the courtroom itself. Arriving at the courtroom, the victims’ relatives had anger and indignation written on their faces as they sought justice. The atmosphere was heavy and emotionally charged inside a courtroom that was packed to capacity and suffocatingly full.
For this reason, a temporary recess was ordered, while earlier the president of Liberty’s Pleusis and victims’ relatives’ advocate, Zoe Konstantopoulou, emphasized that the trial could not proceed under these overcrowded conditions, criticizing the Justice Minister regarding the choice of courtroom. Relatives and lawyers shouted about the prevailing conditions, raising issues of respect for the proceedings, with one of the defense attorneys announcing that a request would be submitted to the bar association’s plenary session.
Entering the courtroom, Maria Karystianos demanded justice, while inside the courtroom, Mr. Routsi and Mr. Plakias told parapolitika.gr that they were not optimistic about the trial’s start. Inside the courtroom, victims’ relatives waited with patience, pain, and anxiety, visibly exhausted and seeking justice. All this while the area around Larissa’s conference center has been turned into a fortress and protests outside it for the Tempi victims continue.
