The Five-Member Criminal Court of Appeal of Athens recognized no mitigating circumstances for the “leadership” of the Golden Dawn criminal organization, namely Nikos Michaloliakos, Ilias Kasidiaris, Ioannis Lagos, Christos Pappas, Ilias Panagiotaros, Giorgos Germenis and Artemis Matthaioupoulos.
The court recognized mitigating circumstances for only five convicted members by a 4-1 majority. After five sessions, the court delivered its decision on mitigating circumstances, granting the mitigating factor of subsequent good conduct after the act to former MPs Antonis Gregos and Dimitris Koukoutsis and to criminal organization members Aristodimos Daskalakis, Markos Evgenikos and Thomas Maria. For the rest, it rejected the requests.
The prosecutor rejected the prosecutorial appeal for the imposition of harsher sentences and proposed that the same sentences as the first-instance court be imposed on the convicted, except for the five who were granted mitigating circumstances, for whom she recommended lower sentences.
Now, the countdown begins for the imposition of sentences on the 42 convicted individuals.
It is noted that some former MPs who had been granted suspensive power in their appeal may find themselves in prison for the first time.
Today, the only defendant present in the courtroom is Giannis Lagos, while as in every session, Magda Fyssa is also present in the courtroom.
