Greece, from the first moment that Cyprus found itself in Iran’s crosshairs due to its military bases, made sure to stand by its side, immediately sending the pride of the Navy, the frigate “Psara,” the Belh@rra frigate “Kimon,” and a squadron of F-16s, proving that the Great Island is not “far away,” but “close by.”
Annita Dimitriou: The immediate deployment of frigates shows Greece’s solidarity
The President of the House of Representatives of Cyprus and President of the Democratic Rally, Annita Dimitriou, through her statement to “Parapolitika” expresses her sincere gratitude for the assistance our country sent to Cyprus and adds that “the immediate deployment of the frigates ‘Kimon’ and ‘Psara,’ as well as the presence of fighter aircraft in Cyprus from the first moment of the crisis in our region constitute tangible proof of Greece’s solidarity and support towards our homeland, strengthening the sense of security and stability”.
In my communication with Mr. Mitsotakis, the steady and unwavering support of the Greek government towards the Republic of Cyprus was confirmed with clarity
“Hellenism proceeds with common orientation”
As Mrs. Dimitriou emphasizes, “from the first moment I had communication with both the Prime Minister of Greece, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and the President of the Greek Parliament, my counterpart, Mr. Nikitas Kaklamanis. In my communication with Mr. Mitsotakis, the steady and unwavering support of the Greek government towards the Republic of Cyprus was confirmed with clarity during this difficult juncture. At the same time, the President of the Greek Parliament expressed the institutional support of the Greek Parliament, emphasizing that in moments of challenges for Hellenism, Greece stands firmly beside Cyprus. This stance sends a strong message of unity and responsibility”.
According to the President of the House of Representatives, “the relations between Cyprus and Greece are based on deep historical, national and strategic ties, which are confirmed every time circumstances require it. Today, more than ever, it is clear that Hellenism proceeds with common responsibility and common orientation for ensuring security, stability and peace in the region. Greece and Cyprus proceed together, with composure, determination and full coordination”.
It is worth noting that on Monday, the President of Parliament, Nikitas Kaklamanis, spoke by telephone with Mrs. Dimitriou and, after expressing his support and solidarity to her, emphasized that, if deemed necessary, he would board a plane to travel to the island and express in person exactly what they said in their telephone communication. Additionally, the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, spoke by telephone with the President of the Cypriot Parliament and President of the Democratic Rally, expressing to her that our country remains steadily and unwaveringly by Cyprus’s side.
