More than 6.1 million tax returns have already been submitted by taxpayers to the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE), according to the latest statistical data. With only 600,000 tax returns remaining, the process appears likely to be completed within the coming days before the July 15 deadline.

AADE rejects extension requests
Despite the positive progress of tax returns, there are strong requests from accountants and tax professionals to the Ministry of National Economy and Finance and AADE, seeking to extend the deadline until the end of July. According to “Apgevmatini,” the economic staff and AADE appear reassuring, arguing that there is no reason for a new extension of tax returns.
They estimate that all returns can be submitted on time by July 15. The requests fall into the following categories:
• Individual taxpayers: Time is requested to complete code 081 concerning rental income, as the refund is expected in November
• Businesses: Accountants point out that EOPYY clawback notices for 2024 were posted just days ago, significantly limiting the time for submitting returns and amendments
• Technical problems: It is reported that in recent days AADE’s electronic system has experienced overload and technical issues, making timely submission difficult
Tax return statistics from AADE
According to AADE statistics, 66% of taxpayers either pay no tax at all or have a refund for 2024 income. Specifically, 43.79% of taxpayers pay no additional tax to the Greek state. In total, out of 6.1 million tax returns, 2.6 million are zero-balance.
For 22.26% of taxpayers or 1,351,365 individuals, a tax refund resulted, averaging 372 euros. The remaining 33.94% of taxpayers are required to pay additional tax for income earned in the previous year.
Specifically, for 2,060,437 tax returns, the settlement result is a debt, with the total tax amount reaching 3.99 billion euros. The average tax for these returns amounts to 1,937 euros.
Self-employed professionals and amended returns
Self-employed professionals have also proceeded with filing tax returns, with 1.3 million having already finalized their tax obligation with AADE. Tax is calculated presumptively, while those who consider AADE’s assessments unfair have the option to dispute them.
Taxpayers who discover errors or omissions in their tax returns have until July 15 to submit amended returns without penalty. The process is simplified through AADE’s platform, as data from original forms (E1, E2, E3) is automatically transferred to the new return, allowing modification of only the necessary points.
