efood: What Greeks buy on Valentine’s Day
Flowers, as every year, were consumers’ most beloved category, gathering the overwhelming majority of items sold, with chocolates, wines and drinks following. Red roses maintain their symbolic and commercial role as the most popular choice of the day, with a significant difference from other colors – specifically pink and white roses which were the second and third most popular consumer choices respectively.
For chocolates, the second most popular product of the day, classic small and medium-sized chocolates topped preferences, functioning as complements to bouquets or as standalone gifts. Regarding preferences, Bueno-flavored chocolate, hazelnut praline chocolates, and plain milk chocolate emerge as consumers’ primary choices.
Flower shops receive the highest percentage of orders by far
Flower shops recorded the highest order volume, with a significant difference from the second store category, confirming their central role on Valentine’s Day. Pastry shops and mini markets followed, strengthening the momentum of supplementary purchases.
Specifically, on February 14, 2025, over 60% of Valentine’s Day-related orders were placed from flower shops, with 92% of these orders coming from local stores. Nearly 20% of orders came from pastry shops (42% the corresponding percentage) and 12.5% from mini markets.
