At least ten people, including the alleged perpetrator, lost their lives following a shooting attack at a school complex in the city of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, Canada, according to an announcement by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
The deadly incident occurred Tuesday afternoon (local time) at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School. Authorities initially issued an urgent warning about an active shooter inside the school, immediately mobilizing security forces. Students from the high school, which hosts grades 7 through 12, as well as those attending a neighboring elementary school, were placed under lockdown.
Meanwhile, area residents were instructed to remain in their homes and seek safe shelter until authorities completed their operation.

Six victims were found dead inside the school, while another died en route to the hospital. Two additional fatalities were discovered at a residence believed to be connected to the incident.
The alleged perpetrator was also found dead inside the school, with authorities describing it as a “self-inflicted injury.”

According to the RCMP, a total of nine people were victims of the attack, while the injured exceed 25. Two individuals were airlifted to hospital with serious or life-threatening injuries. Authorities stated they have identified the alleged perpetrator, however noted it may never be possible to determine the motive. Meanwhile, the possibility of a second suspect is being investigated, though no confirmed information is available at this time.
The small farming community of Tumbler Ridge remains in shock, while the investigation into the exact circumstances of the attack is ongoing.
