“The country needs a force that will constitute the alternative governmental proposal. We, the progressive forces of the country, must serve this need, and naturally the role of Alexis Tsipras can be decisive, as he has the experience of governing in very difficult situations,” declared SYRIZA-PS MP Olga Gerovasili on Parapolitika 90.1 radio show “She and I,” with journalists Stella Gantona and Thanasis Fouskidis.
“These are difficult times, and the fragmentation in the progressive space obviously leaves a void where solutions usually don’t come as required, but mainly emerge from darker areas that we see developing both in Europe and globally, after Trump’s election. Therefore, the issue is how the country will be governed after the elections, which the progressive space must never allow to result in a third term for Kyriakos Mitsotakis,” Gerovasili stated.
Gerovasili on Karystianos: Apparently leans toward the far-right so far
When asked if she includes Karystianos among the “dark forces,” Gerovasili responded: “From what we’ve seen so far, yes, she leans toward the far-right. This obscurantist view she unfolded about abortions, the associates who appear to be beside her, but there’s also yesterday’s statement that strikes me because she talks about changing the country’s political system – does she mean a referendum? If every issue requires a referendum, you understand we’re talking about changing the country’s political system.”
Asked to comment on the view that the opposition gave “space” for Karystianos to enter politics, she said: “There’s the struggle for justice by the relatives of the Tempi crime victims, which we supported from the first moment and will continue to support. This isn’t a choice that was made and led to party creation. If it brought that, it brought it, but it’s not something that determines our stance. We’ll continue supporting the relatives’ struggle. Beyond that, Ms. Karystianos or anyone else has the free will to create a party. However, what created all this was this entire Tempi crime. Responsibilities must be attributed to those responsible for the crime.”

Regarding Alexis Tsipras, Gerovasili stated: “The country needs a force that will constitute the alternative governmental proposal, and we, the progressive forces of the country, must serve this need. He’s the person who successfully governed the country and has experience governing in very difficult times, and he’s a personality recognized internationally.”
“Alexis Tsipras follows his own plan, which he will unveil himself. I’m a SYRIZA MP and the job I have to do, which I’m doing, is trying to ensure we’re a useful force for Greek society and a decisive force for the country’s next day. Regarding progressive space convergences, which is a declared goal after the election of Socrates Famellos, I firmly believe that only this can be the solution – a progressive space realignment. There, Al. Tsipras’ role can be decisive,” she concluded.
