An alarm was raised in the early hours of Monday (19/1) at the Fire Service, following a fire that broke out at a plastics factory in Menidi. The fire spread rapidly due to the flammable materials inside the facility. For public health protection reasons, the 112 emergency system was activated, with instructions for area residents to remain indoors and close doors and windows due to thick smoke.

Six fire trucks with 22 firefighters rushed to the scene immediately, along with a specialized crane vehicle, while municipal water trucks also assisted in the firefighting operation. Later, forces were reinforced and now 42 firefighters with 19 vehicles are operating at the site.

Firefighters are making tremendous efforts to bring the fire under control to prevent its spread to adjacent buildings.
Menidi fire: Complete destruction of the factory
Despite the massive response, the plastics factory, located at the junction of Dekelia and Katara streets, was completely destroyed by the flames. According to reports, the fire threatened a neighboring business, but thanks to the timely intervention of firefighting forces, the danger was averted.
It should be noted that the circumstances under which the fire broke out remain unknown at this time. The exact causes are expected to be investigated by the competent investigative unit of the Fire Service.
