According to the decision, for 2026 the reconstruction value of insured homes is set at €900 per square meter, a factor considered when calculating tax reductions. Additionally, provisions for group insurance policies have been introduced, allowing beneficiaries to submit relevant insurance certificates to the competent tax authority service, either at local tax offices or service centers.
The following reductions apply:
– 20% property tax reduction for homes with taxable value up to €500,000, provided they are insured for one year against earthquakes, fires and floods.
– 10% property tax reduction for homes with taxable value exceeding €500,000, under the same insurance conditions.
– Proportional property tax reduction for insurance coverage shorter than one year, with minimum coverage of three months required.
Tax authority: Property tax reduction procedure
The property tax reduction process is structured as follows:
1. Insurance companies submitted to the tax authority by January 10th details of home insurance policies covering earthquake, fire and flood risks that were active during 2025.
2. Taxpayers submit applications for property tax reductions, including any modifications or corrections, by February 16th through the digital portal myAADE (myaade.gov.gr), following: Applications > Popular Applications > myPROPERTY > Property tax reduction for insured homes.
3. Insurance companies confirm the details by February 28th.
4. The tax authority verifies that conditions for granting the property tax reduction are met, which is then granted to beneficiaries with the first central assessment.
