“The time has come to talk with Putin,” stated Giorgia Meloni during the press conference she gave. The Italian Prime Minister emphasized that she agrees with the view expressed earlier by Emmanuel Macron, however estimating that “if we reopen dialogue in a fragmented way, we would be doing Putin a favor and that’s the last thing I want.”
Macron recently stated that Europe must engage in dialogue with Moscow, as efforts continue to end the war in Ukraine.
Meloni: The time has come for Europe to speak with Russia
“I think Macron is right about this. I believe the time has come for Europe to also speak with Russia. Because if Europe decides to participate in this phase of negotiations by speaking only to one of the two sides, I fear that ultimately the positive contribution it can offer will be limited,” Meloni commented.
“If we made the mistake of deciding, on one hand, to restore dialogue with Russia and, on the other hand, to proceed in an unorganized way, we would be doing Putin a favor. We had this problem from the beginning. Too many voices, too many formations,” she added.
Italy’s Meloni:
The moment has arrived when Europe should speak with Russia.
But if we reopen dialogue in a scattered manner, we would be doing a favor to Putin.
