Tensions remain high in the agricultural sector as farmers intensify their mobilizations by setting up blockades at various locations across the country, sending a clear message of their tougher stance. At the same time, they appear determined to remain on the streets through the holidays, even proceeding to close various airports and ports.
The farmers, who remain positioned on national and provincial roads as well as at customs points, emphasize they will not back down, insisting on their basic demands:
- compensation payments,
- measures for foot-and-mouth disease,
- reduction of production costs,
- tax-free agricultural fuel and
- normalization of agricultural subsidy payments
